To achieve the best results for your portrait shoot, I’ll give you 7 simple tips on how you can best prepare for the shoot, whether it’s a business portrait or a private portrait.
1. hair
Not everything depends on your hairstyle, but a lot does. When you come to the portrait shoot, you should feel comfortable. This is one of the very few moments when I would prefer to replace the word “should” with “must”.
In any case, the hairstyle is not a nice option. Experience has shown that a visit to your trusted hairdresser a few days before the shoot is never regretted.
I strongly advise against experimenting with new hairstyles!
I would even go so far as to advise you to postpone the photo shoot if you can’t find a good solution to the hair issue.
It’s best to take everything you need to restore and style your hair on site with you to the photo session.
For men, a well-groomed appearance applies not only to the hair, but also to the beard. If in doubt, take the razor with you!
2. sleep
Good night! I really mean that you get a good night’s sleep the night before the portrait shoot. Starting the day well rested is a super important prerequisite for a successful day. Your body tension is completely different and your facial skin also looks fresher when you’ve had a good night’s sleep.
3. time
Make sure you keep enough time free, also for “arriving”. Stress is guaranteed to be written all over your face. So choose a date that is as stress-reduced as possible.
During the photo shoot, we look at the photos together on the laptop and can immediately make corrections and try out variations. This also takes time, but leads to better results and more satisfaction on both sides.
It is definitely worth investing time in these preparations. Time is always an investment in yourself!
4. water
Take a big sip of water or tea in the morning, or even two or three. Your skin will thank you for it, as it will look fresher. Beauty (also) comes from within. From the outside, moisturizer helps to keep your complexion fresh.
5. clothing
Be clear about the role you want to be photographed in.
As a casual coach who brings new ideas to the team?
As a seasoned entrepreneur who successfully takes care of her finances?
Bring a selection of shirts, blouses, jackets, scarves etc. with you. Feel free to wear your favorite piece in which you feel comfortable. The photo will show that, guaranteed.
Pure black and white clothing often looks very harsh in the photo. A dark grey or blue jacket is better, a muted color for a shirt.
I advise against bold patterns. The focus of the portrait is on your face. The task of clothing is to complement the impression and add a subtle but important touch. Clothing should not distract from the face.
At the party, an eye-catching dress might be an option to get attention. At the photo shoot, you already have it. It’s all about you!
6. accessories
Your glasses, watch or jewelry should match the role you want to be photographed in. Ask yourself what you can leave out without losing your identity. It is best to remove all decorative elements before the portrait shoot and bring them with you in a treasure box. This will give the skin on your arm, nose or ear enough time to adapt to its unadorned state.
7. make-up
I recommend the make-up that you use in your everyday (business) life. You can take all the time you need at home and take whatever you need to freshen it up to the photo shoot.
You don’t have to worry about small skin blemishes. I remove them in the image processing. Light retouching is always included in the service.
A business portrait is always about building a relationship with the customer through trust. The photo is a reflection of you in your role. It makes no sense to hide behind your clothes and make-up in the photo and create an impression that you cannot live up to in a personal interview.
